Duration:52 weeks (40 weeks delivery plus 12 weeks term break)

Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of workers who provide services to clients in relation to mental health issues. They can provide counselling, referral, advocacy and education/health promotion services. These workers are required to have high level specialist knowledge, skills and competencies especially in regard to laws affecting people with mental health issues, the range of services available to them and health issues related to mental health.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 160 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

Students study full time mixed mode of delivery that integrates:

  • Face to Face – 2 days, Online and Self Study* Total of 20 hours per week.
  • *self-study to revise and reinforce areas of knowledge, assessment research and assessment preparation and completion.
  • 160 hours mandatory work placement.

The Diploma of Mental Health consists of 20 units of competency; 15 Core Units and 5 Elective Units.

CHCMHS012 Provide support to develop wellness plans and advanced directives

Students must be 18 years of age or above and provide evidence the following published entry requirements as stated below:

International Students

  • Must be 18 years of age or above at the time of enrolment
  • Year 12 or equivalent of Australian HSC

English Language Entry Requirements:

  • IELTS score 6.0 overall (with no band less than 5.5) or equivalent Pearson Test of English (PTE)

Students are required to complete 160 hours mandatory work placement to complete CHC53315 Diploma of Mental Health.

Students may request Australian Health and Management Institute to organise their work placement or they may find their own mandatory work placement. In the event the student has selected the work placement, Australian Health and Management Institute staff undertakes a work place suitability assessment prior to approval.

All students are required to evidence the following documentation prior to undertaking mandatory work placement.

  • Current and satisfactory police check
  • Current First Aid Certificate

  • Program Service Co-ordinator
  • Case Manager

Students that successfully complete all 20 units of competency as stated in the Course Structure and mandatory 160hrs work placement, will be issued with CHC53315 Diploma of Mental Health. This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).
