Course Description

The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care reflects the role of early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in early childhood education and care services. In doing so they work to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard. They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other staff.

Students study full time mixed mode of delivery that integrates:

  • Face to Face, Online and Self Study* Total of 20 hours per week.
  • scheduled hours for face to face classes (15 hours per week during term time)
  • scheduled hours for on-line learning (5 hours per week during term time)
  • * self-study to revise and reinforce areas of knowledge, assessment research and assessment preparation and completion
  • 280 hours mandatory work placement

CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care consists of fifteen units (15) units of competency, comprising 12 core units and 3 elective units, in accordance with the packaging rules.

Entry to this qualification is open to individuals who:

Hold a CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or

CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.

International Students must be 18 years of age at the time of enrolment

Academic Entry Requirements: Year 12 or equivalent of Australian HSC.

English Language Entry Requirements: IELTS score 6.0 (with no bands less than 5.5) or equivalent Pearson Test of English (PTE).

Students are required to complete 280 hours mandatory work placement to complete CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

Students may request Australian Health and Management Institute to organise their work placement or they may find their own mandatory work placement. In the event the student has selected the work placement, Australian Health and Management Institute staff undertakes a work place suitability assessment prior to approval

All students are required to evidence the following documentation prior to undertaking mandatory work placement

  • Current and satisfactory police check
  • Working with Children Check
  • Current First Aid Certificate

After successfully achieving CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, candidates may undertake Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and Care

Students that successfully complete all 15 units of competency as stated in the Course Structure will be issued with CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)

Students that complete some but not all of the units of competency as stated in the Course Structure may be issued with a Statement of Attainment. It will identify only those units of competence that have been completed as part of the qualification and recognised nationally under the AQF.
