Course Description

This qualification reflects the role of workers who provide self-directed recovery oriented support for people affected by mental illness and psychiatric disability. Work involves implementing community based programs and activities focusing on mental health, mental illness and psychiatric disability. Work is undertaken in a range of community contexts such as community based non-government organisations; home based outreach; centre-based programs; respite care; residential services, rehabilitation programs; clinical settings; or supporting people in employment. Work is carried out autonomously under the broad guidance of other practitioners and professionals.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 80 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

Students study full time mixed mode of delivery that integrates:

  • Face to Face, Online and Self Study* Total of 20 hours per week.
  • *self-study to revise and reinforce areas of knowledge, assessment research and assessment preparation and completion -10 hours per week.
  • Mandatory work placement – 80 hours as per timetable

CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health consists of fifteen (15) units of competency, comprising 11 core units and 4 elective units, in accordance with the packaging rules.

International Students must be 18 years of age at the time of enrolment

Academic Entry Requirements: Year 12 or equivalent of Australian HSC.

English Language Entry Requirements: IELTS score 6.0 (with no bands less than 5.5) or equivalent Pearson Test of English (PTE).

Students are required to complete 80 hours mandatory work placement to complete CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health.

Students may request Australian Health and Management Institute to organise their work placement or they may find their own mandatory work placement. In the event the student has selected the work placement, Australian Health and Management Institute staff undertakes a work place suitability assessment prior to approval.

All students are required to evidence the following documentation prior to undertaking mandatory work placement.

  • Current and satisfactory police check
  • Current First Aid Certificate

Graduates at this level will have the skills for specialised work. Job roles and titles may vary but can include:

  • Community Rehabilitation Worker
  • Community Rehabilitation and Support Worker
  • Outreach Officer
  • Mental Health Outreach Worker
  • Assistant Community Services Worker

Students that successfully complete all 15 units of competency as stated in the Course Structure and mandatory 80hrs work placement, will be issued with CHC43315 – Certificate IV in Mental Health. This qualification is recognised nationally under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)

Students that complete some but not all of the units of competency as stated in the Course Structure may be issued with a Statement of Attainment. It will identify only those units of competence that have been completed as part of the qualification and recognised nationally under the AQF.
